Our Autumn learning...

What a busy Autumn term it has been in Year 1! We have so enjoyed spending time getting to know the children and they have coped really well with all the changes this term has brought with it.

In English the children have been inspired by stories such as Stanley's Stick, Mr Big and Farmer Duck.  They have used their imaginations, written letters, predicted story endings and rewritten stories.  In Maths they have been using lots of practical resources to support them in learning number bonds to ten, adding and subtracting and writing number sentences.  Our IPC topic has been Pirates, and this topic has caught the imagination of so many of our children.  They have enjoyed building a playground for a playmobil pirate and making pirate coins. We have thought about the difference between pirate ships and ships we have now, and considered how pirates navigated the globe.  We also made our own compass. To complete the topic we enjoyed a day planning, making and evaluating a treasure chest.  In Science we have been learning about seasonal change through observing what happens to the trees and their leaves in autumn. We have also learnt about our five senses and have been naming parts of the human body. More recently we have been learning about how to describe, classify and group a variety of different animals. We have also considered what different animals eat!

In PE the children have enjoyed their first term with Mr Wateridge, developing fundamental PE skills and working on their fitness and ball skills.  We have also been learning about music, RE and PSHE.  We have given just a glimpse into what we have achieved so far this term!

We have been so impressed with the children's determination and adaptability this term.  We wish all of you a very Happy Christmas and Healthy New Year, and look forward to seeing you all in 2021.  Watch this space for photos.....
